Component Selection Main Window

This window is used to select the components for any simulation. Components may be from a specific databank or information for the component may be directly supplied, e.g., a petroleum component. PRO/II provides complete flexibility regarding the sources used for component data.

Usage

From the main PRO/II PDF view, either select the Component Selection option from the Input menu, or click the image\COMPNE01.gif button on the Tool bar. This opens the main PRO/II - Component Selection window.

The main Component Selection window provides several options to select the components for the simulation, as follows:

Library Components

From System or User-Generated Databank

Two means are provided for selection of Databank Components:

1. Type the component name directly into the Component data entry field. Add the component to the Selected Component Name/Alias and Databank Search Order List by pushing the Add button, or by pressing the keyboard <Enter> key after the component name is typed. Note that this is a convenient means to supply components for which the name is known.

The component name is checked for a match in the databanks of the current databank search order. If no match is found, a warning suggests using the Search feature to locate the component in the SimSci databanks. The data banks in the SimSci library typically are included in the default search order, but may be excluded when users create custom search orders.

2. Search to locate the component in the databanks of the search order. Start a search by pushing the Select from Lists button, then scroll through lists. See Component Selection from Lists for further details.

The lists include all components in the SimSci-supplied data banks. They also include all components that are in any user databanks registered for use in PRO/II. Use the Thermodynamic Data Manager (TDM) program to register databanks. Registered user-defined databanks appear in the search order list in the form of library:databank.

Databank Hierarchy

The databank search order may be changed by pushing the Databank Hierarchy button. See Component Databank Search Order for more information.

Petroleum Components

To supply petroleum components, push the Petroleum button and supply the data directly in the Petroleum Components Definition Window. Any number of petroleum components may be supplied in a single visit to this window. By definition, petroleum components are not defined in component libraries.

User-Defined Components

To create User-Defined (NON-Library) components, push the User-Defined... button and supply the names of the components directly in the User-Defined Window. Any number of User-Defined components may be named in a single visit to this window. By definition, user-defined components are not defined in component libraries. Components defined in registered user-defined data banks are considered to be library components, not user-defined components.

Data for User-Defined components must be specified by (a) using the Component Properties Main Window or (b) by predicting the properties from the component structure, using the Component Properties - Fill from Structure Window.

Polymer Components

To supply polymer components, push the Polymer button and define the structures using the Definition of Polymer Components Window. Polymers added in this manner are similar to user-defined components described above.

Component Phases

The allowable phases for components may be changed from the defaults by pushing the Component Phases button. See Component Phase Selection for more information.

Actions for Highlighted Components

Any component in the Selected Component Name/Alias list box may be moved, deleted, or otherwise acted upon. First, select a component by highlighting it with the mouse cursor; next, press the desired action button: Top, Up, Down, Bottom, Delete or Rename. The Databank... button in the Edit List group allows changing the databank search order for the highlighted components only. See Actions on Selected Components for further details.
