PRO/II provides great flexibility in defining component data. No limit is placed on the number of components in a simulation. Furthermore, the component data may be derived from multiple sources, i.e., SimSci databanks (libraries), user prepared databanks (libraries), user defined components and/or petroleum pseudocomponents based on stream assay information. Furthermore, a preference search order may be specified when retrieving pure component data from multiple databanks.
Components are selected in the Component Selection Main Window.
SimSci Libraries
PRO/II has an extensive pure component database with more than 1750 components. Data may be easily retrieved for any component by supplying its library name. For convenience, most components have several library names or aliases. You may also replace the library name with a "print" name if you so desire.
SimSci provided libraries include the PRO/II library (SIMSCI), the Process Program library (PROCESS), the AIChE DIPPR library (DIPPR) and the electrolyte library (OLILIB).
Notes: The PROCESS library is provided for upward compatibility with the SimSci Process Program. The DIPPR library is available as an optional add-on to PRO/II.
User Libraries
You may prepare your own databases of component information using Thermo Data Manager program. Component data are retrieved from these libraries via library names and aliases.
Petroleum Components
Information for petroleum components may be directly supplied as described in the Petroleum Components Definition Window.
Components from Assay Data
Components may also be automatically created by PRO/II which correspond to petroleum stream assay information. See the Assay Main Window and the Petroleum Assay Stream Window for more details on this option.
User Defined Components
You may specify all properties for components which are not in the PRO/II libraries. Specify the component name in the Non-library Components Definition Window and then enter the properties in the Component Properties Main Window. User-defined components may be vapor-liquid components or they can be Solid Components.
Polymers
Polymers are very high molecular weight, long-chain components made up of various combinations of monomer units with a recurring chemical structure. The structure is defined in the Definition of Polymer Components Window.
Preferential Search Order for Databank Components
Several component databanks may be used for any simulation. A search order may be specified for the databanks. The databanks are searched in this order and the data for each component is retrieved from the first databank in which the component appears. See the Component Default Databank Search Order Window for more information. Additionally, individual components may have their own unique search order. See Component Specific Databank Search Order for more information.
