Unit Laydown
The Unit Laydown command lists all the unit operations available for constructing a process simulation. To include a unit operation in the flowsheet, select the Unit Laydown menu and choose the corresponding unit operation from the sub-menu, then place the mouse cursor in the draw area and click the mouse button.

Solid
Flash with Solids This FLASH Icon utilizes the same unit operation as the standard flash icon, and operates identically with one exception. This icon allows the user to connect a SOLIDS only stream to the Flash. The new icon has four (4) ports, which allow four (4) distinct phase product streams to be connected to it.
If it is desired to have SOLIDS leaving a FLASH, it is necessary to use the new FLASH w SOLIDS icon. The standard FLASH icon will not allow the 'SOLID' choice via the Product Phase sub-system.
Solid Separator Separates the solid phase material from a mixture of feed streams. It requires both Overhead and Bottoms product streams. The unit operates adiabatically at the lowest of the individual feed stream pressures. See Solid Separator Unit - Technical Information for more details.
Gas/Solid Cyclone The Gas/Solid Cyclone unit operation provides the capability to separate solid phase material with a specified particle size distribution from vapor streams. See Cyclone - Technical Information for more details.
Dissolver The dissolver models the dissolution of crystals into the liquid solvent phase from a mixture of feed streams. It requires both Overhead and Bottoms product streams. By default, the unit operates adiabatically at the lowest of the individual feed stream pressures. See Dissolver Unit Operation - Technical Information for more details.
Crystallizer The crystallizer models the transformation of a supersaturated solution into a solid/liquid mixture phase. It requires both Overhead and Bottoms product streams. By default, the unit operates adiabatically at the lowest of the individual feed stream pressures. See Crystallizer Unit Operation - Technical Information for more details.

Batch
BATCH Reactor The Batch Reactor unit operation is a non-steady state unit operation which simulates the operation of a batch or semi-batch reactor. See Batch Reactor - Technical Information for more details.
BATCHFRAC
BATCH Distillation The Batch Distillation unit simulates a batch rectifier comprising a stillpot, column, condenser and accumulator. Only vapor/liquid separation may be modeled. The stillpot, the trays in the column and the condenser are all theoretical stages. Simple distillation (Rayleigh) may be simulated by setting the number of stages to 2 (condenser and stillpot) and setting the reflux ratio to zero. See Batch Distillation Unit Operation - Technical Information for more details.
Depressuring Unit Simulates the time-pressure-temperature relationship when depressuring a vessel through a relief or control valve. See Depressuring Unit - Technical Information for more details.
Utilities
Controller Adjusts an upstream parameter in the flowsheet to reach a specified objective on a process stream, unit, or thermodynamic parameter operation. See Controller - Technical Information for more details.
Multi-variable Adjusts a group of at least two (2) or more upstream parameters in the
Controller flowsheet to reach a specified set of two (2) or more
objectives on process streams, units, or thermodynamic
parameter operations. There must be an equal number of
specifications and variables. See Multivariable Controller -
Technical Information for more details.
Flowsheet Optimizer Either Minimizes or Maximizes an objective function by varying a number of flowsheet variables subject to a number of constraints while at the same time meeting a number of specifications. See Flowsheet Optimizer - Technical Information for more details.
Calculator Computes a result or an array of results for printout, allows you to assign results to a stream vector, or for use by other unit operations. See Calculator - Technical Information.
Stream Calculator A flexible unit which blends any number of feed streams and produces products with defined composition and thermal condition. Pseudoproduct streams may also be created. See Stream Calculator - Technical Information.
Phase Envelope Generates phase envelopes for multi-component streams using the Peng-Robinson (PR) or Soave-Redlich-Kwong (SRK) equations of state. See Phase Envelope - Technical Information for more details.
Heating Curves Generates heating or cooling curves which represent a composite of equilibrium flash calculations, for any process stream or an unit operation internal stream. See Heating/Cooling Curves - Technical Information for more details.

Upstream Unit Allows preparing any of several types of laboratory information and incorporating in in a simulation. Only one type of data is supported in each instance of the unit operation. Data types supported include Gas-Oil Ratio, Liquid dropout, Relative Volume, and Constant Volume Depletion. An additional fifth operation mode, Stream Selector, allows changing feed streams. This latter mode most often is useful for performing parametric studies. See Upstream Unit - Overview for more information.
