Paste Command (Edit menu)
Use this command to paste data from the Clipboard into the flowsheet. The Paste command supports the following data:
OLE objects
PRO/II stream
data
Unit operations
Paste OLE Objects
When pasting an OLE object (such as a spreadsheet or bitmap image), the object is embedded in the flowsheet and placed at a default position on the active view. For more information on OLE, refer to the Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) topic.
Paste Streams
PRO/II stream data can be pasted from the clipboard into a new or existing stream. Follow these simple procedures:
Paste to one or more existing streams.
Select (highlight) one or more
target streams to receive the data.
Choose this command to paste
the clipboard data into the target streams. This overwrites any previous
data in the target streams.
Paste to a new stream.
Select this command when nothing
is highlighted in the flowsheet.
Move the cursor to the desired
location and left click. This materializes the copied stream and anchors
one end of it.
Finish laying down the new stream
by the usual method (see Connecting
/ Reconnecting Streams for instructions). The new stream contains
a copy of all the data in the original stream.
Paste an assay stream to a product stream
Select (highlight) one or more
product target streams to receive an assay data.
Choose this command to paste the
clipboard assay data into the product target streams. This overwrites
any previous data in the product target streams.
The pasted stream will be excluded
from the Assay blending when the properties of these psuedocomponents
are generated.
Paste reference stream on to its source stream
User is not allowed to paste
the reference stream on to its source stream. This is because the defined
data in the source stream will be lost.
For more related information, see Stream Copy.
Paste Unit Operations
A single unit operation previously copied to the clipboard can be pasted back onto the PFD. A pasted unit is always added to the PFD as a new unit. In other words, PRO/II does not allow pasting data into an existing unit operation. PRO/II now supports copying or pasting of multiple unit operations at a time.
All unit operations are supported, including merged columns. The pasted unit is a complete copy of the original, including all data, specifications, and feed and product streams. New identifiers are generated for the unit and all of its feed and product streams. Product specifications are modified so they apply to the new product streams.
The naming convention of the pasted unit operation or stream will be <name of original unit operation or stream>_1.
For pasted unit operations that make use of external file (e.g.*.htri, *.apj, *dat), the external file is also copied.
For pasted unit operations in a simulation where the sequencing method is Explicitly defined by User, the Problem Calculation Sequence window is opened when unit operations are pasted. This is to warn that calculation sequence needs to be re-ordered accordingly.
In case of multiple selections of unit operations or streams, if a stream or unit that is being referred to is not included in the selection, then the copied unit or stream maintain the original references. If the stream or unit that is being referred to is included in the selection, then the copied unit or stream references are updated accordingly.
The references mentioned above are applicable for SPEC/VARY/DEFINE and also Calculator Procedure data i.e. the procedure data having references to streams will be updated with the copied stream ID if it is included in the copy paste selection.
Note: The state of a unit operation automatically changes to excluded if you paste it in an excluded block diagram and changes to included if you paste it in an included block diagram.
Paste to a new unit operation.
Select this command when nothing is selected (highlighted) in the flowsheet.
Move the mouse to position the
box at the desired location.
Left-click the mouse to insert
the unit operation at that position.
Multiple unit operations can
be selected using Shift key. When you select multiple unit operations,
a selection box is drawn and only the unit operations that are explicitly
selected will be part of copy/paste operation.
Note: Selection with Ctrl keys not available.
Notes
Some items copied by the Copy command cannot be pasted back into the PRO/II PFD. Often they may be copied into word processors or spread sheets. See the Copy command for further information.
If the Paste command is used when any unsupported data is on the clipboard, the command will not be performed. Depending upon where the paste is targeted, such as onto an existing unit operation, a warning dialog displays a message.
Paste across different PRO/II sessions:
PRO/II allows pasting copied unit operations, streams, and drawing objects across different PRO/II sessions. The paste behavior is similar to pasting data within a PRO/II session, but with some special provisions, especially when there are differences between source and destination sessions with respect to options such as UOM, Components, Thermodynamic systems, Assay Characterization, Reaction sets, Reaction procedure, Solids PSD, and Tag data.
Units of Measure (UOM): If the UOM of a source session is different from that of the destination session, the copied data will be appropriately converted and pasted. Similarly, other global options such as Standard Pressure conditions, Temperature conditions, and Pressure gauge basis of the destination session will be considered in the UOM conversion and pasted appropriately.
Components: If any component that is present in the copied Unit Operation or Stream is not present in the destination session, the data related to this component will not be pasted. So, data such as composition, spec, vary, and define that is related to the missing component will not be copied to the destination session. Specifications, vary, and defines related to the missing component will turn to unsatisfied state.
Thermodynamic Set: If any particular Thermodynamic set is not available in the destination session, the default option will be selected for all the copied Unit operations that had the missing Thermodynamic system.
Assay Characterization: Once assay streams are pasted in the destination session, the assay components will be regenerated. Assay characterization Options of the destination session will be applied when the Assay Components are regenerated.
Reaction Sets and Reaction Procedure: If the Reaction set and Reaction procedure data related to the copied Unit Operations is not available in the destination session, the missing reaction data will not be pasted. Therefore, the pasted unit operation will have incomplete data and will turn to unsatisfied state.
Tag Data: If a tag is not available in the destination session, the data related to the tag will not be pasted and relevant unit operation or stream will be pasted without the tag and will turn to unsatisfied state.
Unit Operations with External Files: When unit operations with external files such as PipePhase, Excel UOP, Excel75, UAUOP, AMSIM, Rigorous HX, and Calculator with Excel option are copied from one session to another, the associated external files are also copied to the destination .prz file with appropriate external file names. However, for Calculator unit operation with Excel, the attached Excel file is not pasted in the destination .prz file if an Excel file with the same name already exists in the destination .prz file. The pasted Calculator unit operation will automatically get connected to the already existing Excel file in the destination .prz file in such case.
Notes:
Copy/Paste across different versions of PRO/II is not allowed.
Cut/Paste is not available across PRO/II sessions.
Copied Unit operation and Stream data is available for paste in the clipboard even after closing the simulation, until some other data is copied or any of the following operations is performed: Run, Restore Input Data, and Compact Repair. Also, these operations change the color of the copied unit operation and stream back to their original color.
If any of the following operations is performed after copying an object: Save, SaveAs, Close, re-draw, and ESC (pressing escape key), the color of the copied object changes back to its original color, but the object remains in the clipboard. It can be pasted any number of times.
