Gibbs Reactor Main Window
The Gibbs Reactor simulates a chemical reactor by solving the heat and material balances based on minimizing the free energy of the components in the reaction.
Usage
Reaction Set
Select a reaction set or "None" if no set is required. No reaction stoichiometry is required for the Gibbs reactor. If a set is selected, the calculations will be limited to those reactions. Reaction stoichiometry is entered into a reaction set in the Reaction Data Sets Window. These data cannot be defined or modified in the reactor unit.
Thermal Specification
By default, the reactor operates at the feed temperature. Alternatively, you may specify:
Ø Temperature Rise across the reactor
Ø isothermal operation at a Fixed Temperature
Ø reactor Fixed Duty
If you select Fixed Temperature or Fixed Duty, you may enter a value for that parameter or relate it to another flowsheet parameter using the Define system.
Unit Reaction Definitions button:
Push this button to display the Unit Reaction Definitions Window in order to define the reaction phase and to view the reactions if a reaction set has been selected.
Extent of Reaction button
Push the button to display the Extent of Reaction Window where you limit the approach to equilibrium for the reaction.
Reactor Data button
Push the button to display the Gibbs Reactor Data Window where you define reactor options and limits.
Pressure button
Push the button to display the Reactor Pressure Window where you define the outlet pressure or the pressure drop across the reactor.
Product Phases button
If there is more than one product stream leaving the reactor, the Product Phases button becomes available. Push this button to display the Product Phases Window where you enter the phase conditions of the product streams.
How to get to this window
The PRO/II Gibbs Reactor Unit Operation window is accessed by double clicking on the Gibbs Reactor icon laid down on the Process Flow Diagram.
Complete technical details may be found in topics under Reactors in the PRO/II Reference Manual.
