Equilibrium Reactor Main Window

The Equilibrium Reactor simulates a chemical reactor by solving the heat and material balances based on supplied reaction stoichiometry and equilibrium data.

Usage

Reaction Set

The reaction stoichiometry and any heat of reaction data must be entered into a reaction set in the Reaction Data Sets Window before the reactor performance can be specified. These data cannot be defined or modified in the reactor unit. Select the required reaction set from the drop-down list.

Thermal Specification

By default, the reactor operates at the feed temperature. Alternatively, you may specify:

Ø Temperature Rise across the reactor

Ø isothermal operation at a Fixed Temperature

Ø reactor Fixed Duty

If you select Fixed Temperature or Fixed Duty, you may enter a value for that parameter or relate it to another flowsheet parameter using the Define system.

Relative Duty Tolerance

This sets the error tolerance for duty used in internal calculations. The default relative tolerance is 0.001.

Unit Reaction Definitions button:

Push this button to display the Unit Reaction Definitions Window in order to view the reactions in the selected set or enter reaction data.

Extent of Reaction button

Push the button to display the Equilibrium Reactor - Extent of Reaction Window where you define the approach to equilibrium for the reactions.

Reactor Data button

Push the button to display the Equilibrium Reactor Data Window where you define reactor options and limits.

Pressure button

Push the button to display the Reactor Pressure Window where you define the outlet pressure or the pressure drop across the reactor.

Print Options button

Push the button to display the Reactor Print Options Window where you can specify that the enthalpy balance calculation path should be printed.

Product Phases button

If there is more than one product stream leaving the reactor, the Product Phases button becomes available. Push this button to display the Product Phases Window where you enter the phase conditions of the product streams.

How to get to this window

The PRO/II Equilibrium Reactor window is accessed by double clicking on the Equilibrium Reactor icon laid down on the Process Flow Diagram.

Complete technical details may be found in topics under Reactors in the PRO/II Reference Manual.
