The crystallizer models the transformation of a supersaturated solution into a solid/liquid mixture.
The shape factor defaults to 1.0 which indicates cubic crystals. A value of indicates spherical crystals.
Select the component for the dissolved component from the drop down list. Components are defined in the Component Selection Main Window.
Select the predominant component of the solvent from the drop down list.
Select the Thermodynamic Method Set to be used by this unit operation.
Press this button to open the Crystallizer Calculation Mode Window where you must specify whether the unit will operate in Design or Rating mode and supply the relevant parameters.
The rate constants for the Nucleation and Growth Rate equations must be supplied in the Crystallizer Growth and Nucleation Rates Window which is opened by pressing this button.
By default, the unit will operate at the mixed feed temperature and pressure with a zero recirculation rate. These may be changed in the Crystallizer Operating Conditions Window which is opened by pressing this button.
The products connected to the overhead and bottoms ports on the Process Flow Diagram (PFD) are initially assumed to be the required overhead and bottoms product. They may be changed in the Crystallizer Products Window which is opened by pressing this button.
Press this button to open the Print Options Window where you may specify that Crystal Size Distribution should be printed on the output.
The Crystallizer Main Window is accessed by double clicking on the crystallizer icon on the process flow diagram.
