Column Reaction Selection

Use this window to select reactions which will occur in the reactive distillation column and to allocate reactions to column trays.

Usage

This window is opened from the Column Main Window by pushing the Reactions button.

Check the Include Reactions in the Column Calculations box in order to select reactions. This makes the rest of the window available.

Reactions to be Used in the Column

You must first select one or more existing Reaction Set from Reaction Data which will be used in the column. Reaction sets are defined in the Reaction Data Sets Window. On selection, a default name is entered as the Column Reaction Set Name and you may enter an optional Description. If you wish to modify a reaction data for this column only, press the corresponding Modify Data button to open the Column Reaction Definitions Window. If you wish to modify the data for all units, use the Reaction Data Sets Window.

Reaction Set Assignment to Tray

You must specify which reaction set will be used on which trays in the column. The Column Reaction Set list box contains all the set names listed in the Column Reaction Set Name table. Select the required set and the enter the Starting and Ending Trays. You may assign a reaction set to any number of trays and any tray may be assigned multiple sets.

Options

Reacting Volumes: Press this button to open the Column Tray Effective Reaction Volumes Window where you may enter the effective tray volume for kinetic reactions.

Non-Volatile Catalyst: press this button to open the Column Non-Volatile Catalyst for Boiling Pot Window where you may define amount of catalyst in a boiling pot model. This is only available if the catalyst components have been allocated a zero stoichiometric coefficient in the Reaction Data - Reaction Components Window and the reaction order has been set to one in the Reaction Data - Reaction Order and Activity Phase Window or in the Column Reaction Order and Activity Phase Window.

Non-Condensables: Press this button to open the Column Non-Condensing Components Window where you may specify non-condensing components for vapor phase polymerization reactions.

Subroutine/Procedure Data: Press this button to open the Column User Subroutine and Procedure Data Window where you may enter data to be used in a user-supplied reaction rate calculation.
