Batch Reactor Main Window
The Batch Reactor unit operation is a non-steady state unit operation which simulates the operation of a batch or semi-batch reactor by solving the transient heat and material balances based on supplied reaction stoichiometry and kinetic data.
Usage
Reaction Set
You must select a Reaction Set and supply reaction stoichiometry and any heat of reaction data in the Reaction Data Sets Window before the reactor performance can be specified. These data cannot be defined or modified in the reactor unit. Select the set which contains the required reactions.
Maximum Batch Time
When the batch cycle time reaches this value, all calculations will stop. Note that this is the simulated reaction time from the start of the batch cycle of this unit, not the elapsed computer time.
Thermodynamic System
Select the thermodynamic system from the list. Note that the Batch Reactor supports Electrolyte Thermodynamics.
Overall Operating Policy
The overall operating policy defines all operational parameters for the unit. It is defined in one or more policy segments. Each row in the table is one segment.
Identifier: The policy segment identifier may be up to 12 characters and must be unique. A default identifier is supplied (Pnnn, where nnn is a number starting from 001).
Policy Segments: Press the Enter Data button to open the Batch Reactor Policy Segment Window where you define the policy actions/conditions for the segment.
Unit Reaction Definitions button
Push this button to display the Batch Reactor Unit Reaction Definitions Window in order to view the reactions in the selected set and to enter reaction data.
Utility Fluids button
Push this button to display the Batch Reactor Utility Fluids Window in order to define any utility fluids that you may want to use for heating or cooling the batch reactor during any of the policy segments.
Print Options button
Push this button to display the Batch Reactor Print Options Window in order to specify output reports to be generated during the calculation.
Calculation Options button
Push this button to display the Batch Reactor Calculation Options Window in order to define the tolerance for LSODA integration method and tolerances for equilibrium calculations.
Global Stop button
Push this button to display the Batch Reactor Global Stop Window in order to define the maximum and minimum operating temperatures of the reactor.
Product Phases button
If there is more than one product stream leaving the reactor, the Product Phases button becomes available. Push this button to display the Product Phases Window where you enter the phase conditions of the product streams.
How to get to this window
The PRO/II Batch Reactor window is accessed by double clicking on the batch reactor icon laid down in the Process Flow Diagram.
