Transport Properties Window

Use this window to select the transport property methods to use in conjunction with a Defined System. Transport properties include viscosities, thermal conductivities, liquid diffusivities and vapor-liquid surface tension (which is not really a transport property).

You must visit this window if transport properties are desired or needed for the simulation. Unit operations which require transport properties include the rigorous heat exchanger, pipe, column sieve tray calculations and packed column calculations. When transport properties are requested they are also printed in stream property reports and distillation tray liquid and vapor reports.

Usage

From the Thermodynamic System - Modification Window, push the Transport Properties button.

By default the Compute Transport Properties ... is checked to activate transport calculations.

Select an option from the Transport System box to specify the overall system used for Viscosity Methods, Thermal Conductivity Methods and Surface Tension Method. The box for Liquid Diffusivity Method is always available.

See Overall Transport Specifications for details on the options.

A vapor viscosity method may be selected with the drop down list box.

See Viscosity Methods for Vapor Phase for available methods.

A liquid viscosity method may be selected with the drop down list box.

See Viscosity Methods for Liquid Phase for available methods.

A vapor thermal conductivity method may be selected with the drop down list box.

See Thermal Conductivity Methods for Vapor Phase for available methods.

A liquid thermal conductivity method may be selected with the drop down list box.

See Thermal Conductivity Methods for Liquid Phase for available methods.

A liquid surface tension method may be selected with the drop down list box.

See Surface Tension Methods for options.

A liquid diffusivity method may be selected with the drop down list box.

See Liquid Diffusivity Methods for options.

User-added methods may be selected with the drop down list box.

See Thermodynamics - User-added Methods for options.
