Stream Main Data Entry Window

This window is used to enter input data for the selected stream in the flowsheet. Connecting / Reconnecting streams to unit operations must be done in the draw area of the Main Window.

The necessary input data for a flowsheet source stream are the stream's composition and its thermodynamic condition. Note that if the stream is a product stream leaving a unit operation, the supplied data will be considered only as an initial estimate by PRO/II. The final condition of the stream will be set after the unit operation it originates from is solved.

Stream Type

The stream type describes the method by which the stream composition is defined. Click the required method from the list. There are five different Stream Types:

Composition Defined

You define the composition of a stream composed of library and/or non-library components. Press the Flowrate and Composition button to open the Streams with Defined Composition Window where you may specify either the total stream flowrate and individual component compositions/flowrates, or just the individual component flowrates.

Petroleum Assay

Distillation data will be used to define the stream's composition in terms of pseudocomponents. Press the Flowrate and Assay button to open the Petroleum Assay Stream Window where the data may be entered.

Spiral Assay

Select one or more crudes from the Spiral Assay database. Click the Flowrate and Crude selection button to open the Spiral Assay Stream Window.

Referenced to Stream

The current Stream (target stream) will have the same composition as another (reference) stream. Press the Flowrate and Stream button to open the Reference Streams Window where you select the reference stream and may enter its flowrate.

Solids only Stream

The stream contains only components which have been defined as Solid Components on the Component Phase Selection Window. Press the Stream Solids Data button to open the Solid Components Window where you enter the data for the stream.

Stream Solids Data

Press this button in order to open the Solid Components Window where you describe attributes of solid components in the stream. This is optional with Composition Defined and Petroleum Assay streams and required for Solids Only Streams. Solids may not be defined for Reference Streams.

Stream Polymer Data

Press this button in order to open the Polymer Distributions Window where you describe attributes of polymer components in the stream. Polymers may not be defined for Reference Streams. They are optional for all other stream types.

Thermal Condition

First Specification

This is the first of two specifications needed to determine the thermodynamic state of the stream. You can select either the stream pressure or the stream temperature from the drop-down list box. If the stream is a column feed, it defaults to the feed tray pressure.

Second Specification

This entry completes the specification required to determine the thermodynamic state of the stream. Depending on the selection made for stream type and the first specification, you can select one of the following:

Pressure : Stream Pressure. Stream phase is calculated.

Temperature : Stream Temperature. Stream phase is calculated.

Dew Point : Stream condition is at its dew point. Stream contains vapor phase only.

Bubble Point : Stream condition is at its bubble point. Stream contains liquid phase only.

Liquid Weight fraction : Weight fraction of the liquid phase in a stream containing vapor-liquid mixture.

Liquid Mole fraction : Mole fraction of the liquid phase in a stream containing vapor-liquid mixture.

Liquid Volume fraction : Standard liquid volume of the liquid portion divided by the

standard liquid volume of the total stream.

Note that if the stream is being referenced to another stream, only pressure, temperature, bubble point and dew point can be selected to determine the thermodynamic state.

Thermodynamic System

You may specify which thermodynamic system will be used for a feed stream. See Stream Thermodynamic System for more information.
