Pressure Specification Modes

Tray pressure data may be supplied using one of two modes: Overall or By Individual Trays.

Usage

Select the appropriate mode button in the Column Pressure Profile Window to activate input of overall or tray by tray pressure data.

Overall Mode

The top tray pressure (or condenser pressure), and one pressure drop entry are required. The top tray pressure is always defined as tray number two for columns with condensers and tray number one for columns without condensers. If no pressure drop entry is supplied the bottom tray pressure is set to the top tray pressure. The default pressure drop is zero per tray.

When the pressure drop per tray is provided, this value is added successively to each tray below the top tray until the highest numbered tray is reached.

When the pressure drop is given for the column, the bottom tray pressure is determined by adding the pressure drop to the top tray pressure. The pressures for intermediate trays are determined using linear interpolation.

Tray by Tray Mode

Individual tray pressures are supplied in tabular form. The minimum data that may be provided are the pressures for the top and bottom trays of the column. Note that tray two is the top tray for columns with condensers. Missing tray pressures are determined by linear interpolation.
