Column Reboiler

Information pertaining to the distillation column reboiler is entered in this window. The reboiler is normally represented as a heat source on the highest numbered theoretical tray in the column model, corresponding to a kettle reboiler. Options for thermosiphon reboilers are provided for the Inside-Out, Enhanced I/O and Sure column algorithms only.

The RATEFRAC algorithm allows only a kettle type of reboiler. All the other reboiler options are disabled.

Usage

From the Column Main Window, push the Reboiler button.

Check the option "Column with Reboiler" to initiate entry of reboiler data.

Select the desired Reboiler Type option. Note that the thermosiphon options are only available for the Inside-Out, Enhanced I/O and Sure algorithms.

For thermosiphon reboilers, select the desired Thermosiphon Reboiler Specification option and supply the corresponding data entries.

For thermosiphon reboilers with return temperature, temperature change, or rate specifications, convergence may be enhanced by providing an estimate of the circulation rate. Select either of the Molar Estimate options and enter the value in the corresponding field.

The Reboiler Duty is usually varied to meet a performance specification. See Column Specifications and Variables for further information. If it is not varied, the duty is fixed at the value entered on this window.
