Upstream Unit - Main Window

The main window of the Upstream Unit is the primary entry point for configuring an upstream simulation model. Actually, each operating mode has a different main window. Because the operating mode was specified when Adding The Upstream Unit To The Flowsheet, only the main window appropriate to that operating mode displays.

The following figure is a generic representation of the main window that appears. The numbered features are common to all versions of the window in all operating modes.

1.  Menu Bar provides many tools useful when using this data entry window.

UOM allows manipulating units of measure in fields that support them. This is not available when the cursor focus is on a field that does not support UOM's.

Define Allows dynamic definition of data in fields recognized by the PRO/II SPEC/VARY/DEFINE system.

Range Allows specifying minimum and maximum values for data. It is only available in certain fields.

Help  Opens a help topic associated with the specific field in the DEW that has the current cursor focus. The topic that will open changes whenever the focus changes. This is not available when the focus is on a widget that does not have associated help.

Overview  This shortcut opens the Upstream Unit Overview help topic.

Status  This is a shortcut to the PROVISION Messages window.

Notes  Allows adding lengthy descriptive text (over 4000 characters) applicable to this specific instance of the Upstream unit.

2.  Unit:  A unique identifier for this instance of the unit operation. A default initially is generated but it can be edited and changed in this field.

3.  Description: An expanded description of the unit operation up to 40 characters. Options allow displaying it instead of the Unit ID in some flowsheet labels, tables, and reports.

4.  Thermodynamic System: Identifies and allows changing the thermodynamic METHOD set used by this unit operation.

5.  Operation Mode: Identifies the mode of operation assigned to this instance of the unit. This cannot be changed without deleting the unit from the flow sheet.

6.  Mode-specific Data Group: Contains controls and data fields specific to the operation mode of the unit operation. Separate Help topics are available for each mode of operation. Simply follow any of these links.

7.   OK and Cancel Buttons: After completing data entry, click OK to save the data and exit the window. Alternatively, click Cancel to discard all data changes and exit the window.

8.  Status Bar: Often (but not always) provides hints or reminders about the control or field that has the cursor focus. This text changes when a mouse click changes the cursor focus.
