Stream Calculator Feed Scaling

Use this window to supply scaling factors to feed streams to the unit.

Usage

From the Stream Calculator Main Window, push the Feed Scaling button to display this window.

Factors may be applied to any feed stream in order to increase or decrease its contribution to the blended feed. The factors may be any value, either positive or negative. If the scale factor is negative, the factored component flowrates are subtracted from the other feeds.

Alternatively, instead of entering numeric values for the scale factors, they may be referenced using the Define system relative to any available unit operation or stream parameter calculated elsewhere in the simulation.

Example:

The following compositions and scaling factors have been defined for the three feeds to the unit:

The resulting blended feed component rates are calculated as:

Methane 0.5*100 - 0.2*10 + 2.0*30 = 108 moles/hr

Ethane 0.5*80 - 0.2*20 + 2.0*50 = 136 moles/hr

Propane 0.5*60 - 0.2*15 + 2.0*40 = 107 moles/hr

The blended feed enthalpy is determined in the same way.

If component flow is calculated to be negative, the resultant action is determined by the negative flow option selected on the Stream Calculator Main Window.
