Plug Flow Reactor External Heating/Cooling

Use this window to define an external heating or cooling stream for a plug flow reactor.

Usage

Heater Type

Select whether the heating or cooling is counter-current or co-current.

Stream Type

Select whether the external stream heats or cools the reactor.

Heat Transfer Coefficient

Specify the heat transfer coefficient per unit of reactor tube wall area.

Outlet Temperature

The outlet temperature is required for counter-current operation in order to back calculate the inlet temperature. To fix an inlet temperature, use a controller to vary the outlet temperature.

Inlet Pressure

You may enter either a pressure drop below the pressure of the heating/cooling stream or enter a value for its inlet pressure.

Outlet Pressure

By default, there is no pressure drop across the heating/cooling stream. You may enter either a pressure drop below the inlet pressure or enter a value for the outlet pressure. The pressure is assumed to vary linearly between inlet and outlet.

How to get to this window

The Plug Flow Reactor External Heating/Cooling window is accessed by selecting the External Heat thermal specification on the Plug Flow Reactor Main Window and pressing the Enter Data button.
