Heat Exchanger Hot Utility Stream

You can use a hot utility stream to heat either a process or a column internal stream attached to the cold side of the heat exchanger. The utility fluid can either be steam or a heating medium of your choice. The saturation condition for the selected utility fluid is required for the simulation.

Note that the hot utility stream button is available only in the following cases:

1. When only one side of the exchanger contains process stream and it has been specified to be the cold side.

2. When no process streams are connected to the exchanger and the hot side is not attached to a column.

Usage

From the Simple Heat Exchanger Main Window push the Utility Stream button on the Hot-side.

1. For the Utility type, select one of the following fluids:

Steam : Saturated steam. Either the saturation temperature or saturation pressure must be supplied. Only latent heat effects are considered.

Heating Medium : User supplied heating medium, which is designated as a single component vapor phase utility fluid at its dew point that gives up heat as it condenses. All the components selected in the Component Selection Window are available in the component list.

2. Supply one of the following saturation conditions for the selected utility medium:

Pressure : Saturation pressure of the utility fluid.

Temperature : Saturation temperature of the utility fluid.
