Rigorous Heat Exchanger - Tube Data
Use this window to enter details of the exchanger tubes. All the data items in this window have default values.
Usage
Thickness
You may define the tube thickness in terms of Inside Diameter, Wall Thickness or BWG. If you select Wall Thickness or BWG you must enter a value.
Roughness
You may define the tube roughness in terms of Absolute Roughness or Relative Roughness. If you have selected Relative Roughness then you must enter a value. The Roughness group box is enabled only when the tube side pressure drop method is BBM and disabled when HEX5 method is selected.
Length
Enter the nominal tube length including the thickness of both tubesheets. For U-tubes, include the thickness of the tubesheet and the last baffle.
Outside Diameter
Enter the tube outside diameter.
Pitch
Enter the distance between tubes measured from center to center.
Pattern
Select a tube pattern.
Sheet Thickness
Enter the tube sheet thickness. If you do not enter a value, PRO/II calculates one using TEMA methods.
Fin Data
The tubes in the exchanger may be bare or may have fins. If you select No Finned Tubes, PRO/II assumes bare tubes.
Fin Selection
Select how you want the extended area to be calculated.
Area from Fin Data
Select this and PRO/II calculates extended surface area from the fin data.
Extended Surface Area
Select this to over-ride the internal calculation of extended area. If you make this selection, you must enter a value in area per unit length of tube.
Fins/Inch
Enter the number of fins per inch of tube length.
Thickness
Enter the fin thickness.
Height Above Root
Enter the fin height above the root. If you do not supply it, PRO/II calculates it as
(Tube Outside Diameter - Root Diameter)/2
Root Diameter
Enter the tube diameter at the base of the fins.
