Batch Distillation - Report Definition

Use this window to define each output report. The available options allow specifying the amount of detail and the frequency of the reports.

If this window is not used, the default report selection is no Time Profile Reports and two Time Summary Reports at the beginning and end of each policy segment. The two (default) Time Summary Reports include molar-basis Product Reports and Stage Summaries.

Usage

Time Summary Reports

Each Time Summary Report is a snapshot at a given time. A separate report is produced for each time specified (or defaulted) under Report Times.

The reports may be on a mole, weight or volume basis. For reports on several bases, a separate report is required for each basis. The times at which the reports are produced may be modified in the Batch Distillation - Report Times window.

Product Report: This report contains temperatures, pressures, heat duties, liquid amounts and liquid fractional compositions for the stillpot, condenser, and accumulator. Distillate, top vapor and reflux flows, and distillate vapor fractions also are included. By default, this report includes compositions for all components. This summary includes fractional compositions for all components, regardless of any components selected under Output Modifiers.

Stage Summaries: This reports the temperature, pressure, holdup, liquid and vapor flow rates, and any continuous charge and draw rates for stages in the unit. If the required stages are not specified in the Output Modifiers, the report includes all stages.

Stage Compositions: This produces a table of fractional compositions for stages in the unit. The components and stages included in the table may be restricted in the Output Modifiers. The default includes all components and all stages.

Time Profile Reports

Each of these reports is a table of the specified data versus time. Each row of the table is for a different time, as specified (or defaulted) under Report Times.

Reports are available for:

 Stage Temperatures

 Stage Liquid and Vapor Loadings

 Stage Liquid and Vapor Compositions

 Overall Material Balance

 Component Material Balance

Stage Liquid and Vapor Loadings and Stage Liquid and Vapor Compositions may be specified on a mole, mass or volume basis. The default stage and component selections, where applicable, are shown in the help line at the bottom of the window when focus is set on each report-type check box. To limit the components or specify additional stages for output, use the Output Modifiers.

Report Times

The default times for all reports are the start and end of each policy segment as it is executed. Pressing the Report Times button opens the Batch Distillation - Report Times window. In that window, users may select which policy segments to report and the frequency of reporting within each segment. The user also may specify additional times for the reports.

The times specified apply to all Time Summary and Time Profile Reports selected in this window.

Output Modifiers

Linked text is used to specify which components and stages appear in the reports. Output Modifiers are available only for the reports to which they are relevant. Similarly, default components and default stages appear only where the report selection allows component or stage specification. Clicking on default components opens the Batch Distillation - Component Selection window where the components desired for the reports may be selected. Clicking on default stages opens the Batch Distillation - Stage Selection window where the stages for the reports may be selected.

The components and stages selected in this window apply to all Time Summary and Time Profile Reports to which they are relevant.
