When You Have a Question
Experienced specialists are available to provide answers to your questions about PRO/II, and to assist you with any problems you may come across. If you have difficulty, try following the steps below before calling Customer Support.
First, try using the documentation available on your own computer. The guides and manuals mentioned here were installed as part of a normal installation of PRO/II.
Use the on-line help system.
PRO/II provides context-specific help in all the data entry windows. Simply
place the mouse cursor on a data entry field and press the Help button. Most windows also include
an Overview
button that displays descriptive and technical information about the features
in the window. In the PFD Main Window, enter "Help Mode" by
selecting the What
is command in the Help
menu, or by clicking the What
is button on the Toolbar.
Follow the
sample problems given in the PRO/II Tutorial Guide.
Read the
Troubleshooting section of the PRO/II Installation Guide. It contains
information on common problem areas and error messages.
Read the extensive documentation
installed with PRO/II .
An enormous amount of technical information about the products is available
in the on-line manuals. Some of the most general manuals that serve as
good starting points are:
PRO/II Keyword Manual In addition to fully describing the keyword syntax, this manual contains extensive usage and technical about almost all the features available in PRO/II, including individual unit operations models.
Component and Thermodynamic Data Keyword Input Manual Volume I describes all the capabilities for entering and using component data. Volume II describes all the available thermodynamic methods and options.
PRO/II Reference Manual Volume I provides in-depth discussion of selected topics related to component and thermodynamic properties. Volume II presents in-depth information about selected unit operation calculation methods and models.
There are quite a few other manuals available in the \manual sub-directory of the PRO/II installation. Most are available from the Welcome.pdf file.
Next, use the available internet resources. There is a wealth of information provided by Simsci.
Visit the
Simsci web site and explore the
product knowledge base. Answers to many technical questions are available
there.
If you subsequently need to call Customer support, please have the following information ready to give the specialist who answers your call:
The type
of computer you are using, the version of PRO/II you are using, and the
version of Windows software installed.
The exact
action you were taking when the problem occurred, as well as the steps
you took leading up to that point. Being able to reproduce the problem
usually is a great aide to resolving it.
