Calculation Types

Two types of calculations may be performed: rating calculations for existing columns and sizing calculations for new columns. Calculations may be for trayed columns or for random or structured packings.

Tray Rating is used to determine the performance of trays in columns for which the tray details are known. Performance is measured in terms of the approach to flooding or flooding factor and the backup of liquid in the tray downcomers.

Tray Sizing determines the tray size required to meet specified sizing criteria such as minimum tray diameter, tray spacing, maximum flooding factor and number of flow paths.

Packing Rating calculates the performance of existing packed sections of the column in terms of pressure drop and approach to flooding.

Packing Sizing calculates the column diameter to meet an approach to flooding criterion. In addition, you may specify a maximum pressure drop. The diameter will be determined by whichever is limiting.
