When a condenser is present, an estimate may be provided for the column reflux, either as the reflux ratio (L/D) or as the reflux rate. When the Default option is used, the Initial Estimate Generation Methods assume a reflux ratio of 3.0 which is satisfactory for solution of many columns.
Additional information
When columns have a performance specification of reflux rate or ratio, the specified value is preferentially used as the reflux estimate.
The reflux ratio estimate is always based on moles of reflux divided by the total moles of condenser product(s).
It is good practice to provide a reflux estimate for columns with very high reflux ratios such as superfractionators and splitters.
