Liquid-Liquid Options

This window appears when a thermodynamic system with vapor-liquid-liquid capability (and in which a free water phase is not decanted by default) is added to the Defined Systems for the simulation. Systems may be added by pushing the Add button or by double clicking the desired system in the Primary Method list box in the Thermodynamics - Main Window.

Usage

Select the desired VLE/VLLE Option radio button as follows:

Single Liquid Phase Only

A single liquid phase is considered for the calculations. Even if the physical system exhibits a liquid-liquid phase split, PRO/II will not look for such a split and will therefore not find it.

Enable Two-Liquid-Phase Calculations

Two liquid phases are considered and calculations are performed using a rigorous thermodynamic model. The liquid-liquid equilibrium is treated rigorously as well as the vapor-liquid-liquid equilibrium. The second liquid phase may or may not be an aqueous phase.

Additional Information

The default option is to only consider a single liquid phase and the corresponding VLE/VLLE Option radio button is marked. To accept the default, push the OK button. Since the rigorous VLLE calculations are more time-consuming, the "Single Liquid Phase Only" option should be used if it is known that only a single liquid phase will form. If the "Two-Liquid-Phase" option is selected, it is strongly recommended that you supply LLE key components. Also see VLE Calculations and VLLE Calculations for more details.
