Heat Exchanger Process Streams
If you have connected one or two sets of process streams (streams drawn in the flowsheet) to the exchanger, you must identify the side to which each set belongs.
Usage
From the Heat Exchanger main window, push the Process Stream button for either Hot-side or Cold-side to display this window.
There can be two possibilities depending on whether only one or both sides of the exchanger have process streams attached.
1. Process streams connected to only one side of exchanger
By default, the first Feeds and Product list boxes are automatically filled with the streams associated with each side of the exchanger. Initially however, there may be no way to know which side is the hot side and which the cold. PRO/II arbitrarily assumes the first side is the Hot side. This may not be the intent of the user.
This may be switched in the "Process Streams" DEW. Notice that the "Specify Information For" data entry group box includes a pair of radio buttons, labeled respectively "Hot" and "Cold", above the display of feed and product streams. Select either the Hot or the Cold button to which these streams belong. Choosing either radio button switches the settings for both sides of the exchanger. If only one side of the exchanger is defined, no unexpected side-effects are possible. Note: If one side of the exchanger is a utility, an internal column stream, or is attached to a column, switching the sides of the process streams causes loss of data for the utility or attached side. PRO/II issues a warning message to confirm the data deletion.
2. Process streams connected to both sides of exchanger
PRO/II with PROVISION fills in the two sets of feed and product streams in the top and bottom list boxes. Switching the Hot or Cold designator for the set of streams on one side automatically switches the designator for the other side. If the sides have not been selected previously, the top list boxes display the hot side streams and the bottom list boxes the cold side streams.
If there is more than one product stream leaving either side of the exchanger, the corresponding Product Phases button becomes available. Push this button to display the Product Phases Window, where you can enter the phase conditions of the product streams.
