Rigorous Heat Exchanger - HTRI Setup

Use this window to enter process and data initialization details for the HTRI simulation model.

Usage

HTRI simulation software can be integrated into the rigorous heat exchanger model of PRO/II . Before this is possible, users must acquire a valid license directly from HTRI. The arrangements between the user and HTRI are beyond the control of Invensys , although we make every reasonable effort to support many versions of HTRI software.

For assistance acquiring or installing HTRI software and licenses, contact you Invensys Process Systems account representative. If you already have installed HTRI software with PRO/II, the specific version in use may be found by navigating to the Help menu, choosing About, and pressing the Version Information button. Currently configured HTRI components appear in the alphabetical list of all software in use by PRO/II .

Process Group Entries

Hot side of the Exchanger: Select the hot side of the exchanger: Shell or Tube.

Thermodynamic system:

Optionally select separate thermodynamic method sets for the shell side and tube sides. The list of available sets includes all thermodynamic method sets in the simulation. The default uses the Global Default Thermodynamics Method set for both the shell side and the tube side.

Attach to Column

Push this button to display the Attach to Column Window where you can select an internal stream of a column as a feed to this side of the exchanger.  If there is no column in the flow sheet, this button is unavailable.  If you want the column to determine the duty of the exchanger, select Rating as the Calculation Type.

Thermosiphon Reboiler with Iterative Calculations with HTRI ON or OFF:

Select the Thermosiphon Reboiler radio button to update the column thermosiphon reboiler duty and circulation rate with HTRI results. This radio button is available only when the HTRI exchanger is in simulation mode and it is attached to a column as a thermosiphon reboiler with circulation rate specified.

Upon selecting the Thermosiphon Reboiler radio button, select one of the following options from the adjacent drop-down list to decide whether the iterative calculations have to be performed with HTRI or without HTRI:

  • Iterative Calculations with HTRI ON

  • Iterative Calculations with HTRI OFF

The drop-down list to select Iterative Calculations with HTRI ON or OFF is not available for kettle reboiler.

Pressure - Temperature Property Grid

Select the number of pressure and temperature points to enable Pro/II to generate and specify the pressure - temperature property grid to HTRI. The default is 3 pressure points and 10 temperature points. Note that the performance will be faster if the number of points selected is less.

HTRI Data Initialization Group Entries

This option offers two choices: Initialize HTRI data from an existing HTRI file, or from the PRO/II (rigorous) heat exchanger model.

Initialize HTRI Data from an existing HTRI: Select this option to initialize the heat exchanger configuration data from an existing HTRI file data file. Typically these files have names that end in the suffix ".HTRI". Either type the filename directly in the text field, or use the Browse button to delect the desired HTRI data.

Initialize HTRI Data from PRO/II Heat Exchanger Model: Select this option when the configuration data from PRO/II heat exchanger needs to be used. In this option, the data from all the Data Entry Windows are copied to the HTRI Data file

Write PRO/II Default Values to HTRI Data File check box: Check this box to make available the PRO/II default values as well as user entered values in HTRI Data File. If this box is unchecked, it is essential to note that only user entered values are available in HTRI Data File.

Initialize HTRI Data: Push this button to create or modify the HTRI Data file in the TEMP directory. For the "Initialize HTRI Data from an existing HTRI" option, a copy of the file HTRI file is created in the TEMP directory. For the "Initialize HTRI Data from PRO/II Heat Exchanger Model" option, the HTRI file having a naming convention of "filename_UID" is created in the TEMP directory.

Delete HTRI Data: Push this button to delete the HTRI Data file from the TEMP directory.

Export to Standalone HTRI Data File: Push this button to specify a location and save the HTRI Data file.

Additional Information

The Cancel button in the HTRI Setup DEW nullifies any HTRI setup actions performed earlier. This means data generated by the Initialize HTRI Data and Export to Standard alone HTRI Data File actions is permanently lost, and is not retained by PRO/II. Data deleted by the Delete HTRI Data action remains deleted.

How to get to this window

The HTRI Setup window is accessed by selecting Use HTRI option and pushing the Setup button on the Rigorous Heat Exchanger Window.
